At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I have to honestly say that Mary Kate was everything I wanted in a home birth midwife and more. We had the privilege of hiring her for our third baby who was born January 2021. My husband and I learned that home births were an option at the end of our first baby's pregnancy (born naturally in a hospital), and while we planned a home birth with a different midwife for our second child, I was required to have a c-section due to placenta previa which I developed late in the pregnancy. For the birth attended by Mary Kate, I was a VBAC patient. While the hospital and other home birth midwives made a big deal out of this, Mary Kate was calm and factual about the likelihood of a successful VBAC at home. And while other providers give the impression of offering choices during pregnancy, Mary Kate was exceptional in offering choices and never pushing her own preferences and agendas. I truly felt both in control and relaxed during prenatal care. As for the birth itself, she said and did all the right things to help coach me without sounding sugary sweet -- she was factual and to the point as well as helpful. When I neared the end, she reassured me as well as coached me on how to catch my baby as I delivered him in the birth tub. My husband and I hope to hire her again for future pregnancies and we have already recommended her to a number of friends and acquaintances.

Thank you so much, Mary Kate (and her assistant Paige!) for your exceptional care!

Mary-Kate was a dream to have at our birth. So knowledgeable and felt like a part of our family the entire time. She is such a light to bring babies earth side with.

I found Mary Kate, Wild Rose Midwifery, when I was in the final weeks of my pregnancy.  It was an unsettling time due to the tribulations of the world, and i wanted/needed my husband to support me through birth! As my heart changed when I was no longer interested in having a hospital birth and wanted the intimate experience of a home birth, where my wants and needs where met for the delivery of my first baby.

When I was switching from a hospital birth to a home birth I called a few midwives, and the second Mary Kate answered the phone I knew that God matched us. We finally got to meet and she answered all mine and my families questions and concerns with reality, but such a sense of calm that it really helped put my family and myself at ease that we were making the right decision.

For the remaining weeks of my pregnancy, each visit was smooth, calm and personal. We were able to develop such a deep bond that when it came time for the birth, I was 10000000% confident that I was in the right hands. As I labored Mary Kate slid right in and was as supportive, hands on or hands off as needed. Not once did I feel uneasy of birth. At one point she did tell me my babies heart rate was dropping and we needed to focus, and low and behold the next contraction little man entered this world! She was very quick to get him to the immediate skin to skin, and starting his earth side exam as he was in my arms.

After birth Mary Kate gave our new family plenty of time to bond before stepping in to check baby out some more!! She was so good at taking care of me and the baby while letting us form a skin to skin bond from the very beginning!

Every chance i get to share our experience and refer Mary Kate I do, and I can't wait for the next birth with her!

I highly recommend Wild Rose Midwifery and natural home birth as a great option for those who can choose it. From the perspective of a loving husband, I want to share my thoughts about supporting a woman who has chosen a natural home birth with Mary Kate.

As a four-time veteran of hospital births, complete with induction and epidural pain management, I was initially skeptical and fearful of the notion of a home birth. But my wife made the decision and from there it was time to support her. What I learned throughout the process is that I much prefer the treatment, care, and support that my wife received from Wild Rose Midwifery when compared to our previous birth experiences. The entire process was more centered around my wife and what she wanted for our child's birth. Instead of the usual hospital statements like "we don't do that here" or "that's against our policies," working with Wild Rose Midwifery yielded validation and support for the birth plan chosen by my wife. The most common question Mary Kate asked was "how would you like to proceed?" When my wife answered, Mary Kate simply said "then that's what we'll do."

When our 5th baby was born in our home in early January 2021, I also learned that the environment of your own home has wonderful healing properties that can't be replicated in a sterile hospital environment. The recovery process after this last birth has seemed (in my 3rd party evaluation) far better compared to my wife's previous hospital births. Minutes after delivering our daughter, my wife was sitting comfortably in her own bed, bonding with her new baby in a familiar setting. It was peaceful.

Finally, not enough good things can be said about Mary Kate. Her skills, demeanor, bedside manner, and coaching abilities are outstanding. She masterfully walked the line between keeping my wife's wishes as the top priority while also including the entire family in the plan. My children and I were never treated as bystanders, but rather as important components of the family. I mean it when I say we could not have done this without her.
